| 25 Oct 2009: Tsunami Warning Siren Tests |
| RDC conducted Tsunami Warning Siren tests between 12 noon and 12.30pm on Sunday 25 October 2009.
We asked for feedback from people at Omaha Beach when the tests were carried out - on whether and how well you could hear the sirens, your location at the time and any specific factors that may have influenced the sirens' audibility (eg lawn mowing inside or next door, loud music).
Thank you to all the people who emailed. Your combined feedback has been passed on to Rodney District Council, who in turn have passed it on to the siren suppliers.
The various messages about the testing definitely appeared to get through, and the 'repeater' process from RDC in Orewa to Omaha Beach, Point Wells and Whangateau obviously worked which is good news as this is essential to the sirens sounding at all! |

| A Chance to Have Your Say - Warkworth Parking |
| 'Pay and Display' Parking is proposed for Warkworth.
RDC have resolved to adopt a new Parking and Traffic Control bylaw which would allow for 'Pay and Display' parking in Warkworth, along the whole 'main street' (Elizabeth, Queen and Baxter Streets and the streets / areas between them and the river), Mon-Fri 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.
Public consultation is now open and OBC anticipate making a submission. We would like to hear your views - preferably in relation to parking throughout the year, not just over the Christmas-New Year holiday period, when parking in Warkworth is definitely (and unavoidably?) 'overstretched'.
Submissions close Mon 18 May and we would welcome your feedback - by Thurs 14 May if we are to take it into account in preparing the OBC submission.

Please give us your feedback.

| Community Security - annual $20 levy - update |
| A security levy of $20 was introduced in January 2008 to cover some two thirds of the cost of Insite Security extending the work they do all year round to include reacting instantly to any report of damage to or on public property over the summer holiday period. RDC also contributed $10,000. The Community protection also included intervening if necessary on street racing, beach bonfires or general complaints re noise or offensive behaviour.
This was a very successful council-plus-community effort and feedback was overwhelmingly positive. As a consequence RDC agreed to subsidise up to $10,000, matching OBC on a dollar-for-dollar basis to provide the additional security coverage again over the 2008/9 summer holiday season, and the levy was applied again for the 2009 financial year.

| New Public Toilet Block - Southern End |
| We sought Members opinions on the desirability and location of a new Public Toilet Block at the Southern end of Omaha Beach.
The Council had proposed a location midway between blocks 3 & 4 and back from the Surf Club tower near the Tennis Courts and Play Area.
The Golf Club made a submission requesting that the Public Toilet Block be sited on the Reserve behind the 6th green, adjacent to the 7th tee.
What we wanted to ensure was that we understood the views of our southern end Members and act appropriately and we received lots of feedback, which was appreciated.
Progress was being made; then stalled; hopefully will move again in 2009.

| Please Don't Trash Omaha Beach |
| Many people who walk along our lovely beach pick up bottles and cans they find on the beach and the walk ways. Unfortunately there are always at least some. Please don't just throw away empty beers and RTDs on the beach - there are bins in various locations, including by the surf club, the superette, the Community Centre and the boat ramp. |

| Power Cuts - July 2007 storm |
| As a result of the storm on Tuesday 10 July 2007, electricity went off at 4.00pm that day, and was finally restored at around 5.00pm Thursday 12 July 2007 in Omaha Beach.
We were aware that residents had found that food in their freezers had been affected by this outage and encouraged residents to check their freezers for contaminated food as soon as possible.
