Meet at Omaha Wharf Tuesday & Thursday nights at 5.30pm. We would like to invite anyone to come along and try out paddling, its a sport that you can participate in at any age. Presently the club has a Senior Masters Men and Women's team and a Masters Men's team training for the National Sprint Championships held at Lake Karapiro in Mid January. We participate in regattas as
far North as Kaitaia and far south as Raglan. The club holds a Mixed Crew regatta in April at Omaha, last year was our first time and
response was very good, we are hoping for a much bigger response this year. Members of our club have recently returned from participating in the World Waka ama Championships in Sacramento. We are
keen to get some Junior teams going, and encourage youngsters to come
along on Sunday afternoon and have a go. |

| The sand spit reserve at the northern end of Omaha beach is home to a variety of shore birds and is an important nesting area for the endangered New Zealand dotterels and variable oyster catchers. Other birds that roost there at high tide waiting to feed on the rich mud flats of the Whangateau harbour include banded dotterels, godwits, pied stilts, wrybills, turnstones, Caspian terns, white fronted terns and even the very rare fairy tern. These birds are vulnerable to disturbance by humans and dogs and predation by stoats, weasels, rats, hedgehogs and cats. The Omaha Shorebird Protection Trust has been formed to coordinate and finance the protection of this wonderful community asset. Volunteers are always needed to monitor the birds, inspect the predator traps and clear weeds from the nesting grounds. The trust works closely with the Department of Conservation, the Rodney District Council and The Auckland Regional Council. |

| The Omaha Beach Golf Club was founded in 1985 by Guy Dupont and was designed by the famous golf architect, Yves Bureau who designed many golf courses in France and Egypt.
It offers three 9-hole courses : "The Sea", with its 6th hole overlooking the English Channel at the charming fishing port of Port en Bessin ; "The Pond" quite challenging, and for the more experienced golfer ; "The Hedgerow" featuring shades of different greens and rhododendrons.
The Omaha Beach Golf Club is set in a magnificent setting overlooking the D-Day beaches, close to the Normandy American Cemetery where almost 10,000 American casualties are at the rest, and close to the charming Bayeux and the "artificial Port" at Arromanches. A few of the scenes of Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan" were filmed on the golf course which was liberated by the American 1st Division. on June 7, 1944.
It is a favorite destination for North American, British, Northern European and Parisian players.
And perhaps golfers from the Omaha Beach Golf Club in New Zealand. |
